Isle of Skye Tours

Isle of Skye Tour from Inverness or surrounding areas

Isle of Skye provides both ruggedness and beauty and is a fantastic and exceptionally popular tour destination. Given difficulties in recent years in securing accommodation in Skye a good alternative can be found in day touring from Inverness where and from a positive viewpoint many iconic sites of interest such as Lochness, Urquhart Castle, Glenshiel, Eilean Donan Castle and Lochcarron can be found on the journey to and from Skye making this route one of the most scenic and beautiful that you are ever likely to encounter.

Highland Excursions now offer only the extended long day tour to Skye which is designed to give an excellent Skye experience, with a feeling of less rushing around.

Departing Inverness about 0800 we head West along Loch Ness stopping briefly at Urquhart Castle for photographs then its further West to Glenshiel and onto the West Coat stopping at Eilean Donan Castle for a refreshment break and visit to the castle if desired. Then its onto the Isle of Skye itself with a route which takes in Broadford, Sligachan , Dunvegan, Uig, stopping at Flora MacDonalds Memorial, stopping at Kilt Rock, Storr, then Portree for late lunch/shopping as desired, thereafter head back to the mainland and onto Inverness stopping at Rogie Falls if time allows. Brief stops can be made for photographs at any time during the tour. Arrival back in Inverness  at about 1900-1930hrs.

For those who would prefer to have a tour of Talisker Distillery, Carbost this can be done by excluding the Dunvegan-Uig-Flora MacDonald Memorial from the itinerary

Similarly for those wishing to visit Dunvegan Castle, this could also be done by trading off Uig- Flora MacDonald Memorial-Kilt Rock - Storr from the itineray.

At the height of the season the Fairy Pools could probably be best described as a hard to reach area as it is accessed by single track roads which are often busy to the point of grid lock - if you wish to visit the Fairy Pools please bear this in mind and allow 2-3 hours out of your itinerary to do the attraction this including the travel issues and the walk into the pools. This attraction may be best done in combination with a visit to Talisker Distillery and Lunch at Seamus' Bar, Sligachan.

Skye has many attractions and being a sizeable Island would take several days to explore properly, as such you may want to consider taking 2 days of touring to take in all of the attractions mentioned on this page.
