Orkney is astonishingly diverse as compared with its near neighbour, mainland Scotland. The landscape is very flat and is literally an archaeological dig in progress. with new discoveries being made very frequently
Orkney can be visited as a day tour from Inverness and this would involve a very early start with a mid evening finish. Travelling to the island would include travelling via Gills Bay/St Margarets Hope and returning to the mainland via tromness/Scrabster.
Given that Orkney could justify a lengthy holiday in its own right in terms of the many things there to see and do, then you may wish to consider taking at least an overnight to have a more leisurely visit to the Island.
Either option would involve a visit to the Italian Chapel, Kirkwall, Ring of Brodgar, Stones of Stennes, Skara Brae, Skaill House
Please let us know if we can assist you in getting to Orkney and getting you around while you are there. Early booking for this trip would be essential both in terms of accommodation and the ferry travel involved.
